Deep beneath the Pacific Ocean, a cross-dimensional rift known as the "Breach" appeared, connecting our world to a parallel universe. From its depths emerged the first Kaiju—a colossal creature that rose from the sea and laid waste to San Francisco and surrounding coastal cities. Humanity’s conventional military efforts to stop the monster ended in failure, and though the Kaiju was eventually killed with a nuclear strike, the Greater Bay Area was left a radioactive wasteland.

This creature was named "Kaiju"—and what was first thought to be an isolated incident soon became a relentless wave of attacks striking cities across the Pacific.

In response, humanity created their own kind of monster: Jaegers—giant robotic hunters, controlled by two pilots whose minds were linked via a neural bridge. These mechanized giants were deployed to battle the Kaiju legions, using advanced systems to classify and engage each new threat by code name and category.

With the Jaegers, humanity began to turn the tide—even turning Kaiju attacks into media spectacles and public ceremonies. But what they did not yet realize was that a far greater threat was still to come.
